Jen's Visit!

Last May I noticed an e-mail from Jen in Rich's list of recent e-mails.  We were chatting in his study when I saw it, so I right away asked what Jen had to say.  He said it was private, and since I'm a pastor's wife and know that sometimes there are things that are not my business, I immediately assumed it was something pastoral and dropped the issue from my mind.  Imagine that.

Then, 5 months later, the contents of that e-mail were suddenly revealed to me!  Jen had been arranging a surprise visit to us here in Winnipeg!  Imagine my huge surprise when she suddenly popped in the door!  And was able to spend Thanksgiving with us!

Well, you no longer have to imagine my surprise.......it's right here on video for your enjoyment.  Or not.  And whether or not this is staged will be left up to your own imaginings ;)

And a little warning:  this video contains some Cher-Jen humour, so don't be offended or think that I'm secretly a very vain personage.  Jen understands ;)

Snow almost gone

Just an update, for some who may have thought that the snow sticks around in early October. In this case.....no. The forecast? Friday 11 C and sunny; Saturday 14 C and sunny. We're expecting a warm November.

More backyard

The geese in the field behind. We also put burlap around our pines this year just to protect them (the things that look like old bags). In the forest, pines are more protected and shaded by the bigger trees. The burlap is better for them out in the bald prairie where they're more exposed to the sun and the wind. The March sun can sometimes fool them into thinking it's spring and then the sap starts flowing... and then it freezes again at night. So we hope this extra protection will help them. Grow trees grow!...
The same tree (as below) after today's wind. Fall is too short....

Views from the backyard

Note: these aren't our trees. They're the neighbours. But they look amazing... Nice to see some reds, not just browns and yellows....
The soybeans were harvested yesterday. Now the Canada Geese have a place to gather.
